In the Midst of Chaos . . .
Meet Aaron, Jess and Abbie, my new babies. The orphaned litter-mates are pictured here at around six weeks, looking very nervous, even scared, about their future. I’ve got a dozen pictures of them since, looking very happy after taking full possession of my house and completely obliterating my schedule.
I just haven’t figured out how to get the new pix out of my phone.
It should come as no surprise that I named them after characters in my book.
Aaron, the tabby male, is very much like his namesake, Aaron Collins, scrappy and boisterous and taking the lead in his very own gang.
I named the black and white one after Jess Riordan because she has the markings on her face, just like my heroine had the wine stain birthmark that she never let get in her way. My feline Jess is strong like her namesake, but more aggressive.
Abbie is the little black runt, named after Aaron’s boyhood love, Abbie Taylor. At first I thought her the least like her counterpart. As the runt of the litter, she held back when the other played, and waited for them to finish at the food bowl. She was also the sickest with the virus they brought home with them. But I gave her antibiotics, and also fed her apart from the others until she regained her strength. Now she’s charging around with the other two, giving as good as she gets in their mock battles.
And in one way, she does fit the character in the book. In the aristocratic Collins world, Abbie Taylor was the outcast, and yet Aaron went running after her all the same.
